KATE McCORMICK - Special Advisor on Research Administration
EXPERTISE: Certified Research Administrator
Kate is a Certified Research Administrator (CRA) with 18+ years experience in grants administration. She is currently the Assistant Director, Sponsored Projects at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) after 12 years as the Senior Grants Administrator and a year as Interim Assistant Director of Finance and Staff Administration for the Department of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. She has had extensive experience preparing applications for and administering NIH grants, contracts and fellowships as well as grants from NSF, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a range of other agencies. Part of her role is to help develop and implement policies in her office and for HGSE and she also served as an executive committee member of the Financial Interest Group which met on the medical school campus and was influential with regards to school-wide and university-wide policies and systems. Kate organized and ran departmental staff meetings in her previous position and started a committee to organize more social events for her office and her department to promote more interaction between department members and create a more enjoyable work environment.
Kate has been a member of SRA (the Society of Research Administrators) International since 1998 and served on the planning committee of the 2000 regional meeting in Virginia Beach as well as co-leading a newcomer’s workshop at that meeting. Her activities in the society have included serving on the planning committees for Section meetings, coordinating the entertainment for the opening reception in Providence, presenting sessions for regional and international meetings, serving as the treasurer for the Northeast Section from February 2004 until April 2007 and president-elect and president and past president of the Northeast Section from 2007-2011. Kate has also served as the chair of the Section and Division Presidents Committee a member of the Education and Professional Development Committee and as an at-large member of the Board of Directors. She is currently a co-chair for the 2013 International meeting in New Orleans.
